The "Coastal Adventurer", made good time to Valparaiso .and as soon as it was unloaded, started to stack and secure in its hold, thousands of cases of Chilean and Argentinian wine, destined to various brokers in San Francisco for shipping to different destinations.
Eddy decided to stay on board during his free time, to enjoy his hummock, and practice his guitar. Man! he thought; I sure need a little practice, and inspecting his finger tips, realized his playing calluses were almost gone.
In Corinto, the loading would take the rest of the afternoon and most of the night; the "Adventurer" leaving in the morning, to load the waiting coffee and cotton in El Salvador. Eddy was hardly able to wait. He was really looking forward to his three days with Margot and visiting her farm. As usual, he registered in the American's Motel and at dinner time, went to "Melendez' for his proverbial Conchas Cockail and medium-rare steak; washed down with a couple - or three -"Victoria" beers. On the way back to the Motel, he stopped by the Bar and bought four bottles of an excellent Nicaraguan rum to take to the farm.
As soon as they dropped anchor, Eddy packed an extra pair of pants and shirt, underwear, his swimming trunks and a shaving kit in a small suitcase, together with the four bottles of Nicaraguan rum he purchased in Corinto; and he was ready to go! Before leaving he reported to Capain Seems, to make sure his three days of free time were approved, and there was no misunderstandings. Have fun, Eddy! said the Captain, sending him on his way; and with the suitcase in one hand and the guitar in the other, Eddy hurried to Chalet Margot.
A big, wide smile was witing for him, and sure enough, it belonged to Margot. Eddy sat at a table, while Margot went after some oysters and beer. She sat with him and asked: "Are you ready to go to the farm? Do you have enough time?"
"Yes, and yes, Margot. Even checked with the Captain to make sure three days are OK.- No problem!" And I have everything I need right there, he added pointing to the suitcase.- I didn't know you played guitar, Eddy, Margot wondered...just learning, don't get your hopes up. I am no "Mangore." Far from it; but I thought I'd bring it, so if we feel like it, we can sing "La Cucaracha" or something.
And you? Have everything? Oh, yes. It's all in the trunk of the car, including a cooler with ice, full of beer and cokes.- Let's have a few oysters and cold beer and we'll be on our way. OK, Eddy? Deal! confirmed Eddy.
Margot drove on a highway following the coast line. Went thru two or three short tunnels and was explaining that the highway they were on, went to another port, called "Acajutla". My farm is in a place called "Caluco". Very fertile land and plenty of water, making it possible to irrigate. You'll see. I'm sure you'll like it.
